The studio behind the stitch
Elk Pegasus is a bespoke swimwear studio in Ideguchi, Nobeoka, in Miyazaki Prefecture. The idea behind it is simple and a little stubborn: a swimsuit has to suit the shoulders, the torso length and the hips of the person wearing it, and ready-to-wear sizing rarely manages all three at once. So each piece begins with a conversation and a tape measure, not with a size.

The studio works from a pattern drawn for each client. After the twelve measurements we cut a toile in plain fabric, fit it, mark the adjustments, and only then cut the final Italian fabric. Clients in and around Nobeoka come to the studio by appointment. For clients elsewhere in Japan we post a measurement guide, go through the numbers together on a video call, and post the toile for a fitting at home before the finished piece follows.

We keep the studio small, taking on only as many commissions as can be made well at one time. The collection page lists the ready-to-order designs with their prices, and the articles explain fabric, fit and care in more detail. If you are not sure whether bespoke is right for you, the contact page is the place to start.

How we work
No two commissions share a pattern. When a second piece or a matching cover-up is ordered, we start from the measurements and fitting notes already taken, for as long as they are held under the retention period in the privacy policy, and ask for a quick re-check of anything that may have changed. Elastic and straps can be replaced later, and the FAQ explains how alterations work.

Your measurements, not a size chart
We take twelve measurements before cutting a single centimetre of fabric. The result sits differently from anything you have worn off a rack.

Italian stretch fabrics
Our base fabrics are Italian-made stretch fabrics, chosen to be chlorine-resistant and UV-protective and to hold their shape through a full season of use. Ask us what is in the studio right now.
